Trevor Herbert, Emeritus Professor of Music, is to receive the Galpin Society’s Anthony Baines Prize for ‘outstanding contributions to organology’.
The Galpin Society is the principal European learned society dedicated to organology – the branch of musicology concerned with the study of musical instruments. The Society is named after Francis Galpin, the nineteenth century founder of the systematic discipline of organology.
The Anthony Baines Memorial Prize is awarded annually in memory of Anthony Baines (d.1997) in recognition of an outstanding contribution to organology, the study of musical instrument.
The Galpin Society has an international membership of people from all walks of life with an interest in musical instruments.
