CALL FOR PAPERS: Creative/Critical Writing Postgraduate Conference

The Creative/Critical Writing Conference is a one-day conference designed to bring together creative writing research students across the Consortium for Humanities and Arts – South-East England (CHASE) together with the Faculty members who supervise them.

The Creative/Critical Writing Conference being held at UEA London on 10 November invites you to consider issues of scholarship, methodology and craft in creative and critical writing and research. The UEA welcome proposals for 15-20 minute presentations on any one of three broad strands, detailed below. Hybrid projects or projects which do not neatly fit within a single category are also welcome.

Creative: A presentation of creative work and critical reflections on the project Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Reflections on the writing process
  • Relation to established body of work/criticism
  • Influences, sources, and research
  • Constructing meaning
  • Language, structure, and sound

Critical: Literary criticism from a creative or scholarly perspective
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Global literatures in English
  • Memoir, biography, and creative non-fiction
  • Considering the writing process and drafts in other writers’ work
  • Historical and social novels as creative and critical writing
  • Literary markets and audiences

Methodologies: The method and theory of creative and critical writing within the context of creative writing research
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Ideas about the production and criticism of creative work
  • Milestones, and ways forward in the discipline
  • Forms of discourse, voice, and register in critical-creative scholarship
  • Hybridity and blurring boundaries in critical writing
  • Quantitative methods and social sciences in creative writing research

Submissions:
Please send abstracts of 250-400 words via email attachment in a Microsoft Word file no later than June 15, to a.de-vaul@uea.ac.uk at UEA. Please note your institutional affiliation, contact details, and any technology necessary for your presentation. First-time presenters are welcomed and encouraged.
